What is it?
JackTrip is an online platform for low-latency, high-quality audio. It lets people play music together online!
Powered by Cloud Servers
It works by mixing together everyone's audio together in a cloud server, which are your JackTrip studios. They are the virtual rooms, in which you'll be playing music together with others.
Your JackTrip studios can be started in locations all over the world. The closer the studio is to your location, the lower latency your audio will be.
Step-by-step
Big picture, here's how to do it:
- Create a Studio through https://app.jacktrip.org/studios/create
- Start the Studio
- Invite other musicians to connect with their computer, or with a JackTrip bridge
How to host
One person will need to be the host for the studio. They'll invite others, control audio settings, and choose when to go live on JackTrip. All of the controls for the studio itself are on app.jacktrip.org
On the free plan, you can host a private studio for 30min at a time. Check out our pricing plans to get more private studio time.
While live streaming on JackTrip, you can extend the session beyond 30min and won't be charged for any additional time! Sweet!
Check out this guide for steps on how to host your own studio.
How to join
Joining with your computer
You can install JackTrip on your computer to connect using your computer's audio.
For more info, see: How to Join with your computer
Joining with a JackTrip Bridge
We also make some hardware to get connected to a studio, called a bridge. The bridge has two flavors- the Analog bridge and the Digital bridge.
.
The Analog bridge has an included audio interface so you can directly connect to it with audio cables, or connect audio devices with USB. The Digital bridge, on the other hand, only allows connection with USB audio devices. To register the bridge, change settings on the device, and connect to a studio, you can use the JackTrip mobile app. Note that the mobile app is different from JackTrip for Windows, Mac, and Linux!
