JackTrip is pure software. That means all external hardware is up to you to but, as it varies depending on your setup. We want to ensure ultimate flexibility for your setup and budget.

Note that you can also use JackTrip on mobile devices as well using your web browser [more info here], but for ultra-low latency we highly recommend using our Desktop App with additional hardware. This article aims to help you understand, which additional hardware helps to improve your JackTrip connection quality.
To embark on your JackTrip journey, here's a breakdown of what you might need:
1. Computer:
The cornerstone of your setup is a computer. Luckily, JackTrip isn't that picky: it works with most average laptops or desktops. No need for a supercharged machine, just something reliable. [See Minimum System Requirements on our Download page].
2. Ethernet Cable:
For a stable connection, we highly recommend an Ethernet cable to link your computer to your router or modem. This will lower your latency significantly over using WiFi. If you're on a MacBook or similar device, you might require a USB-C to Ethernet adapter.
3. Headphones:
Headphones are crucial to prevent audio feedback, and to increase audio quality.
We strongly advise against bluetooth headphones, so make sure you get wired ones. Simply plug them into your computer or audio interface.
4. Microphone:
While you could start with your laptop's built-in mic, investing in a decent microphone will enhance your audio quality. Whether it's a large diaphragm condenser or a budget-friendly dynamic option, the choice is yours (recommendations below).
5. Audio Interface:
In order to connect external microphones or instruments, you will need an external audio interface (analog -> digital conversion). You can also connect your headphones to the interface for better audio quality (digital -> analog conversion).
In short, audio interfaces serve as the bridge between your mic and computer, ensuring seamless audio transmission.
6. Instruments (Optional):
If you play instruments with an analog output (like guitars or keyboards), you can connect them directly to your audio interface for a seamless experience.
7. Bridge (outdated):
In the past, we offered Jacktrip Bridges - standalone devices acting as both audio interfaces and Ethernet ports. However, we have discontinued support for such devices, as it's more convenient to assemble your setup according to your preferences.
With these components in place and JackTrip software installed on your computer, you're ready to immerse yourself in high-quality audio experiences. Whether you're sending or receiving audio, JackTrip has you covered for seamless connectivity.
Please note that JackTrip supports a maximum of two input and output channels. Thus, if you have more than two channels, we recommend you get an analog mixer with multiple inputs. You can mix and pan your individual inputs, and subsequently output your stereo sum to JackTrip.
