JackTrip's studio sessions support Jamulus!

JackTrip's studios support connections via Jamulus clients. Everyone in your group can connect and use Jamulus exclusively. Or, some people can connect using JackTrip's Desktop App, others using Jamulus, and others using their web browser (WebRTC). Feel free to mix and match and use whatever works best for you. Our studios mix all the audio together so that everyone can hear one another!

Let JackTrip Labs host everything for you at any one of over 100 locations worldwide (and always growing), or use your own hardware to manage a studio server anywhere you like. Sign up for free (no credit card required, no personal information required) to host as many sessions as you like for up to 50 minutes at a time.

Upgrade to one of our premium plans for as little as $49 (USD) per year for unlimited usage and many more features including:

  • Secure cloud-based recording with the click of a button, along with easy sharing, playback and collaboration via the web
  • Download the master mix of your recordings as FLAC audio files
  • Upload and play backing tracks so that everyone can hear them together
  • Live stream the audio from your sessions to anyone in the world, with just the click of a button (no other software or service required)

Optionally, use JackTrip's free and open source Desktop App (for Windows, Mac or Linux) for lossless audio quality with lower latency. It also integrates video so that you can see one another! Additional premium features available when using JackTrip's Desktop App include:

  • Additional cloud buffering when recording for pristine audio quality
  • Download lossless individual stem files for each participant to mix in your DAW
  • Automatic latency synchronization of backing tracks to ensure everyone hears the beat at the same time
  • Live stream your studio sessions with lossless audio and HD video
  • Simulcast your live streams to YouTube and/or Facebook

How Do I Make Sure My Studio Supports This?

To make sure that your studio session will work with Jamulus clients, go to the "Settings" tab of your studio dashboard and find the "Advanced Audio Settings" section. Ensure that your "Sample Rate" is set to "48khz" (required by Jamulus), and your "Studio Type" is set to "JackTrip+Jamulus". These are the default settings for all studios, so you likely do not have to change anything!

How Do I Connect Jamulus to My Studio Session?

First, you need to have an active studio session. Clicking on the "Join" button in JackTrip's interface will always start a new active session for you, if you don't have one already. You can also start a new session by clicking the Play button under "Session Status" in your studio dashboard.

When you have an active session, you'll see a "Details" button. Click that to display the IP address ("Hostname") and other details for your session.

Copy and paste the IP address into your Jamulus client and connect. That's all there is to it.

Note that JackTrip sessions end automatically after there is no audio detected for more than 5 minutes. You can also end a session early by clicking on the Stop button. We will always assign a random IP address to each studio session.
